Hi mate! My name is Léo and I was on an exchange from Martinique to London.
I remember my first day like it was yesterday— waking up in a new house, with new people, who were speaking English at a speed that was impossible for me to follow. That was the moment it hit me: I was on the other side of the world, far away from family and friends, living in a foreign country for an entire summer. It was one of the most memorable days of my life, as well as the beginning of many adventures and life-changing opportunities.
The first couple days and weeks were a challenging experience, but also one of the most memorable periods of my life. It taught me so much about the beautiful English culture and language and myself as well. I enjoyed staying with my wonderful host family throughout the summer. At first it was exciting to meet a new family and a completely new way of life. My exchange wouldn’t have been the same without my host family, as they have been a huge part of my exchange, and I now consider them as my own.
Amazingly, my language school organised excursions every other week. These were so much fun, and offered a great opportunity to get to know other foreigners in London. The friendships and tight bonds between most of us were formed straight away, because there is a unique understanding which we all seemed to share. I have made some of my closest friends on this exchange, who I’ll keep in contact with for the rest of my life. Not to mention that I now have homes all over the world!
Thanks to the YouthExchange.club I have been able to experience this incredible summer abroad. Not only did I really learn the English language and culture, make life-long friends, but I also got to travel the other side of the world, whilst living some of the most incredible moments of my life. This summer has been an unforgettable journey, which I consider to be priceless.
